Public consultation on a proposal to vary Schedule 20 – Maximum residue limits in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code was conducted from 16 June to 14 July 2026 through APVMA Gazette No.12, in accordance with the legislative framework established by the Commonwealth Parliament.
The consultation document noted that submissions should be confined to relevant matters that the APVMA must consider (such as public health and safety) which are associated with the occurrence of the proposed residues in foods.
Submissions received
This proposal included changes to the table entry for isocycloseram and use on berries. Responses received under this consultation were all related to the proposed maximum residues limits for isocycloseram in berries.
We received 26 submissions during the consultation period; 22 submitters gave the APVMA permission to publish the content of their submissions.
Consultation feedback
No new information was provided that would change the APVMA’s assessment or conclusion with respect to the MRLs that were proposed for isocycloseram.
We acknowledge the concerns raised through consultation and have considered all submissions within the scope of this consultation. Based on the available scientific evidence and the requirements of the Agvet Code, the APVMA remains satisfied that the permitted use of isocycloseram on berries is safe for all consumers, and that berries remain safe to eat.
