Our engagement approach

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) aspires to be a global leader in agricultural and veterinary (agvet) chemicals regulation for the benefit of Australia.

This vision is built on meaningful engagement and strong partnerships, and recognises that our decisions affect a diverse range of people, businesses, and organisations.

Our engagement model

In 2025, the APVMA completed a review of our engagement practices. Following that process, we established 3 new groups, replacing the previous Consultative Forum and Agvet Users Forum.

Our engagement groups are structured across 3 levels:

  • Strategic – APVMA Advisory Group and the National Registration Scheme (NRS) Advisory Group.
  • Operational – Agricultural Chemical and Veterinary Medicine Working Groups.
  • Informational – Registrants Information Update and From Farm to Family – your agvet news.

The National Registration Scheme (NRS) Advisory Group

Previously known as the Registration Liaison Forum, the NRS Advisory Group includes all state and territory governments. It looks at the outcomes of the APVMA’s regulations and those of the states and territory, and how all parties together achieve the requirements under the NRS.

The group also focuses on touchpoints between regulation and control of use, provides an opportunity for state and territory governments to provide feedback on how the APVMA can improve labels, and provides an opportunity to ensure the labels the APVMA is proposing are enforceable in each state.

APVMA Advisory Group

The APVMA Advisory Group provides expert advice and stakeholder perspectives to the APVMA on matters relating to the statutory criteria of safety, efficacy, trade, and labelling in the regulation of agricultural and veterinary chemicals.

Advisory Group members represent a range of perspectives including public health, occupational health and safety, regulated industries, and end users.

Agricultural Chemicals Working Group

A working group for agricultural chemicals facilitates engagement between the APVMA and directly regulated entities (or their representatives) on operational matters related to the regulation of agricultural chemicals.

Veterinary Medicines Working Group

A working group for veterinary medicines facilitates engagement between the APVMA and directly regulated entities (or their representatives) on operational matters related to the regulation of veterinary medicines.
