The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has now opened public consultation on proposed changes to the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code (Extension of Protection Periods and Limitation Periods) Order 2022. A consultation paper and survey are available on the department’s consultation website.
The order encourages chemical companies to include identified crop groups and priority uses on product labels for agricultural and veterinary chemicals. It does this by allowing extensions on certain protection and limitation periods.
The department is proposing to:
- add 83 new priority uses to the order
- include veterinary uses for the first time
- maintain all current priority uses
- make no changes to current crop groups.
The department invites affected stakeholders to review the prepared consultation paper and complete the survey on the proposed changes.
Consultation closes Friday 24 July 2026.
