A new self-help tool for veterinary product registration

Every year hundreds of new veterinary products are developed for the Australian marketplace. Many of these, but not all, need to be registered by the APVMA. To help potential applicants or veterinary product developers navigate the complexities of the Agvet Code, which determines the need to register particular products, the APVMA has today introduced a web-based resource—a Registration Self-assessment Tool (veterinary)—that will simplify this process.

Seeking input into the recovery of costs for compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice

We would like to thank everyone who recently provided input to our Cost Recovery Discussion Paper (released December 2011). This paper proposed a number of changes to the current arrangements for the recovery of costs associated with the assessment of compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), which affects manufacturers of veterinary medicines in the Australian marketplace and registrants of imported veterinary products. Since the original consultation period closed, we've discussed an alternative proposal for the recovery of costs associated with the assessment of compliance with GMP with a number of veterinary medicines industry groups. Deadline for submissions: 5 p.m. (Canberra time) Friday, 15 June 2012

Closing date on responses to communication and consultation discussion paper extended to 30 March

We have had a strong and positive response to our Discussion Paper with face-to-face meetings well subscribed and strong demand for the Paper from all stakeholder groups. Through these discussions, however, we have become aware that some groups are heavily committed in responding to the Government’s proposed agvet regulatory reforms and are finding it difficult to allocate time to our consultation. As we want all stakeholders to provide us with a considered response, we have extended the date for comments to cob 30 March 2012.
