Registration requirements

In most cases, before agricultural and veterinary chemical products can be sold, supplied, distributed or used in Australia, they must be registered by the APVMA in Canberra. The registration process is governed by Commonwealth legislation and undertaken according to accepted scientific principles and through rigorous independent analysis by several government agencies and the APVMA.

Each chemical product submitted to the APVMA for registration undergoes rigorous scientific assessment before it can be approved. In evaluating products the APVMA takes full account of the nature of the product, the scientific quality of the data and comments from consultation with manufacturers, Commonwealth advisory agencies, State and Territory departments and other stakeholders, including the public.

The APVMA now accepts electronic submissions for applications to register veterinary or agricultural products. Read the guidance for electronic registration: Requirements for the Construction of Electronic Submissions (Dossiers) (adobe acrobat reader icon - 137KB).

In June 2008 the APVMA held a major registration seminar Registration: Back to Basics. Presentations from the seminar are available for download.
