Public Release Summaries

The APVMA prepares a Public Release Summary (PRS) whenever it proposes to register a new agricultural product or a new veterinary product containing a new active constituent for use on food, animals or crops.

PRSs contain a brief overview of the APVMA's assessment and the specialist advice received from advising agencies.

How we consult on Public Release Summaries

Notices of intent to register a new product containing a new active constituent, inviting public comment are published in the APVMA Gazette, on the Public Consultation page and communicated in the Regulatory Update and Gazette emails. The APVMA invites any person to make a relevant written submission as to whether an application[s] should be granted. Submissions must be lodged within 28 days of the availability of the Gazette notice and should state the grounds on which they are based. Such grounds should relate only to matters that the APVMA is required to take into account in deciding whether to grant registration, which are:

  • public health aspects
  • occupational health and safety
  • chemistry and manufacture
  • residues in food
  • environmental safety
  • trade
  • efficacy.
