NOTICE

Dodine

[in the product: CAMPBELL SYLLIT 400SC FUNGICIDE]

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has before it an application from Colin Campbell (Chemicals) Pty Ltd to vary the registration of this product to include new uses on nectarines and peaches for control of peach leaf curl and blossom blight. The application requires the approval of a label for the product and the variation of existing Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for dodine; and the setting of Withholding Periods (WHPs) for harvest and grazing.

The APVMA invites any person to submit a relevant written submission as to whether the application to vary the registration to extend the use of this product to include these new uses should be granted. Such submissions should detail comments stating the grounds on which the submission is based. Such grounds should relate only to the trade implications of the extended use of the product. Comments must be received by the APVMA within 28 days of the date of this notice.

Summary of the APVMA’s assessment of the application in accordance with sections 29(1)(e) and (f) of the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code (the ‘Agvet Code’) scheduled to the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code Act 1994

The APVMA has evaluated the application and in its assessment in relation to human and environmental safety under section 29(1)(e) of the Agvet Code, it proposes to determine that:

The APVMA is satisfied that the use of this product would not present an undue hazard to the safety of people from consumption of produce harvested from treated crops.

Trade Evaluation

The Chemistry and Residues Program of the APVMA has completed an evaluation of the data and has supported the proposed MRLs and Withholding Periods for this product and use pattern.

Timing of treatment is limited to budswell, early bloom and petal fall. The trial data show that although low concentrations of dodine are present in immature fruit, these residues reduce to non-detectable levels by the time fruit matures and is ready for human consumption.

To ensure compliance with the proposed use pattern a statement has been included in the critical comments pertaining to nectarines and peaches to not apply later than petal fall.

The new label recommendations for the use of the product are unlikely to present any adverse trade impact. Establishment of the dodine MRL as described above would not create direct trade issues as residues are expected to be below the Limit of Quantitation.

The APVMA is satisfied that the proposed changes to the use pattern for CAMPBELL SYLLIT 400SC FUNGICIDE when used according to label recommendations and Good Agricultural Practice would not unduly prejudice Australia’s export trade.

A Trade Advice Notice (TAN) has been circulated to peak bodies of industry groups to allow comment prior to the determination of the application. Copies of the TAN are available on request from David Hutchison, Tel 02 6271 6384.
