Reasons for Nomination: HH = Human Health, E = Environmental, R = Residues

2,4-DB       

2,4-DB (4-(2,4-Dichlorophenoxy)Butanoic Acid) is an agricultural herbicide. 2,4-DB is classified as Schedule 5 (Caution) in the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons (SUSDP) and therefore has a low potential to cause harm.

Registered product containing 2, 4-DB are liquid concentrate, emulsifiable concentrate, soluble concentrate and suspension concentrate formulations and are used for the control of broadleaf weeds in legume based pastures, lucerne, peanuts and undersown cereal crops.

Benzathine penicillin

Benzathine penicillin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat penicillin susceptible infections horses, cattle, sheep, dogs, cats and pigs. It is a schedule 4 in the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons (SUSDP) and therefore can only be prescribed by a veterinarian.

Disulfoton

Disulfoton is an organophosphorus insecticide and acaricide used in agriculture and the home and garden. Disulfoton is classified as a Schedule 6 compound (Poison) in the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons (SUSDP) and therefore has been assessed as having a moderate potential to cause harm.

There is currently (April 2008) only one disulfoton containing product registered in Australia; it comes in a granular formulation used to control aphids, thrips, and two-spotted mite on crops including lucerne, cotton, potatoes, peas, bulbs, gladioli and beans.

Flupropanate

Flupropanate is a Schedule 6 (Poison) herbicide in the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons (SUSDP), used in agriculture and non-crop situations.

It is used for the control of certain grass weeds as well as being a component of integrated management of serrated tussock, giant Parramatta grass, giant rats tail grass, Chilean needle grass and African lovegrass. Products containing flupropanate are used to control these weeds in pastures and non-crop situation including open spaces, woodlands, roadsides and nature reserves as well as in industrial applications.

Levamisole

Levamisole is classified in Schedule 5 (Caution) or Schedule 6 (Poison) of the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons (SUSDP) immuno-stimulant and anthelmintic

Products containing levamisole are used for the treatment of numerous gastrointestinal parasites in cats, dogs, aviary birds, sheep/lambs, pigs and poultry. Products containing levamisole comes in a range of formulations including topical solutions/suspensions, oral solutions/suspensions, oral tablets, pre-mixed oral powders and oral syrups.

Lindane

Lindane is an organochlorine insecticide and acaricide used to control white grubs and symphilids in pineapples. Lindane is a Schedule 6 compound (Poison) in the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons (SUSDP).

There is only one Lindane containing product registered in Australia, and emulsifiable concentrate. It is applied either as a spray, with the pre-plant soil fumigant or as a row treatment prior to planting.

Phosmet

Phosmet is an organophosphorus insecticide and miticide used in agriculture. Phosmet is classified as a Schedule 6 compound (Poison) in the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons (SUSDP) and therefore has been assessed as having a moderate potential to cause harm.

There is only one product containing phosmet currently registered in Australia. This product is an emulisfiable concentrate used for the control of blue oat mite, red-legged earth mite and lucerne flea. It is applied by boomspray, misting machine, or by air to cereal, lucerne and pasture crops.
