Key outcomes of the APVMA Board of Directors - Meeting APVMA 22, Adelaide, SA, 12 October 2006

STRATEGIC OUTCOMES
Updates on external reviews of the APVMA
The Board was briefed on progress of the ANAO Performance Audit of the APVMA. Management understands that the draft ANAO report will be available for comment by mid-October in accordance with previous advice that the final report is likely to be tabled in Parliament in late 2006.
The Board also noted a further update on the Uhrig review of the APVMA’s corporate governance arrangements in particular:
- the progress of consultations by DAFF with key government policy stakeholders to define the form of governance model to be established under the Financial Management and Accountability Act
- in-house preparations for the transition are proceeding in anticipation that the new governance arrangements will be implemented on 1 July 2007.
CHEMICAL REVIEWS
The following chemical reviews were progressed at APVMA 22.
Neomycin
The Board confirmed its previous decision to reconsider oral, intramammary and injectable preparations containing neomycin and the adequacy of instructions on the associated product labels. The scope of the neomycin review specifies consideration of residues and trade issues.
It is anticipated that documentation concerning the scope of the neomycin review will be available on the APVMA website by early 2007 at apvma.gov.au/chemrev/neomycin.shtml.
1080 (sodium flouroacetate)
The Board endorsed the Review Findings on the reconsideration of products containing sodium flouroacetate, otherwise known as 1080, and the associated labels. The proposed regulatory outcomes include varying the labels to strengthen directions for preparation, use, transport and storage of 1080 products.

Other review matters
Directors also received an update on proceedings before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal regarding the review of virginiamycin.
OTHER APVMA22 OUTCOMES
Management advised that progress with the APVMA’s new premises remains on schedule for the APVMA to be operational at 18 Wormald Street, Amtech Park, Symonston as from Monday 30 October. Preparations are underway for an official opening ceremony on 29 November in conjunction with the Board’s first meeting in the new building.
