Questions about Better Regulation and agvet chemical reform
The Australian Government is proposing reforms to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of agvet chemical regulation. Some of the proposed reforms require legislative change. On 15 November 2011, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) published an exposure draft of the legislative amendments for public comment.
Where can I find the exposure draft of the Bill?
The Exposure Draft of the Bill is available from the DAFF website (external site).
How do I comment on the exposure draft of the Bill and when do I need to comment by?
DAFF are the policy agency managing the Better Regulation Partnership reforms. Consultation on the Exposure Draft of the Bill is available through the DAFF website until the end of February 2012.
When will these changes take effect?
A Bill is expected to be introduced into parliament in 2012 and timing of the implementation will depend on the progress of the Bill. Transitional provisions for handling existing applications will be included within the new legislation.
How can I stay informed?
The DAFF website contains up-to-date information on the progress of reforms and areas open for comment.
The APVMA will also be releasing a suite of documents that are related to the reforms. Following usual APVMA consultation processes, these will be released though the APVMA website with invitations to provide comment to the APVMA. The APVMA is unable to accept comments on the draft Bill – all comments must be sent to DAFF.
