Pesticides Program
The Pesticides Program has overall responsibility for managing the APVMA’s activities related to evaluation, registration and review of pesticides. The program includes the Chemistry section, Pesticides Residues section and Adverse Experience Reporting Program (AERP).
Key responsibilities include providing timely services and managing issues related to assessing applications to register or permit the use of pesticides. Additionally, the program is responsible for the ongoing review of existing chemicals to determine whether they continue to meet contemporary standards and for continuous improvement to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the registration and review processes.

Veterinary Medicines Program
Veterinary Medicines Program is responsible for the APVMA’s activities in relation to evaluation, registration, manufacture and review of veterinary medicines.
The Program provides strategic advice to the CEO on veterinary medicines and broader organisational issues.
Key responsibilities include providing timely services and managing issues related to assessing applications to register or permit the use of veterinary medicines; assessment and licensing of manufacturers of veterinary medicines; ongoing review of existing products to determine whether they continue to meet contemporary standards; and continuous improvement to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of these processes.
The Program is also responsible for the Application Management and Enquiries section.

Regulatory Strategy and Compliance Program
The Regulatory Strategy and Compliance Program is responsible for ensuring that manufacturers and suppliers of pesticides and veterinary medicines comply with the Australian registration requirements set out in the Agvet Code. This responsibility extends to, and includes, the point of retail sale. State and territory laws apply thereafter.
The Program is also responsible for negotiating and managing the scientific and compliance service provision arrangements with various Australian and state government agencies. Additionally the Program is responsible for coordinating a range of regulatory reform activities, international engagement program and overseeing the quality of regulatory science through the principal scientist function.

Corporate Services Program
The Corporate Services program provides strategic advice and operations relating to finance and administration, human resources, public affairs and communications, information technology and management, and quality systems. Key responsibilities include providing timely and accurate financial data and preparing financial plans, budgets and strategies that maximise the organisation’s ability to deliver quality services with the funds available.
The program is also responsible for the library, records management, e-commerce and the development of corporate and operational plans and the annual report.

Legal Program
The Legal Program provides legal advice and support to the CEO and staff on all aspects of the APVMA’s regulatory, administrative and corporate functions and assists in managing legal issues and risks affecting and involving the operation of the APVMA. The Legal Program also manages requests for access to documents under the Freedom of Information Act and ensuring the APVMA’s compliance with privacy legislation.
